Your help is urgently needed to help stop Whitehaven’s proposed mega mine. Will you join us today?
Whitehaven Coal is one of Australia’s biggest environmental criminals.
And the company is proposing to build the largest new proposed coal mine in Australia (and one of the largest in the world), the Winchester South coal mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, on Barada Barna Country.
No matter where Australian coal and gas is burnt it damages our climate and we feel the impacts here at home. With the Great Barrier Reef in the midst of yet another serious mass coral bleaching event, the stakes for Queensland and Australia are higher than ever.
If Winchester South gets the green light, it will be digging coal and polluting our environment until at least 2055.
“Approving a coal mine that produces coal to be burnt through to 2055 is reckless at a time when Australia and the world needs to cut emissions quickly.

We cannot stand by and allow this to happen. So, we’re taking on the mine in court.
Whitehaven has a history of breaching environmental regulations and a record of drastically underestimating pollution and emissions from its coal mines.
Not only would the Winchester South project generate at least 583 million tonnes of climate pollution over its lifetime – which is more than the entire annual emissions of Australia – it’s also set to clear at least 2,000 hectares of habitat which is home to endangered and threatened species including koalas and greater gliders.
In fact, 242 MCG fields worth of koala habitat would be destroyed to make way for six huge coal mine pits.
Alongside the Mackay Conservation Group, we are asking the Queensland Land Court to consider the climate impacts of this mega-polluting mine.
Together, we will argue the court should recommend no mining lease or environmental authority be granted for the Winchester South project due to its significant environmental and human rights impacts.
To help us win in court and stop Whitehaven’s proposed mega mine, we urgently need your support.
Your donation today can help to engage top legal experts, and conduct essential research that will help defeat this terrible proposal.
This climate-wrecking project must be stopped. Please stand with us and help win our case against Whitehaven in court.
